FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's basketball team hosted the Saints of Siena Heights University Wednesday night to start their 2022-23 conference campaign. After a slow start to the game, the Warriors found themselves trailing 22-7 at the end of the first quarter. A stronger second quarter cut the lead to 7 as they went to the locker room. Tech saw its first lead of the night with 3:14 left in the third quarter when
Korryn Smith hit a jump shot to put the Warriors up 48-47; however, the Saints would take a 2-point lead into the break. A back-and-forth final quarter ended in favor of the Saints, giving them a 77-74 victory over Tech.
The Warriors shot 47.5% from the field, going 5-18 from behind the three-point line. Freshman Taylor Covington led Tech in scoring with 17 points while also contributing 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
Kyra Whitaker ended the contest with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Erika Foy and
Bethany Worm finished with 12 points and grabbed 8 and 3 rebounds, respectively. Foy's 8 rebounds and 4 assists were team-highs for Tech.
Tech travels to Madonna University to take on the Crusaders Saturday for their first road game of the season. Their last matchup ended 66-26 in favor of the Warriors.
