LIVONIA, Mich. - The Indiana Tech men's basketball team clinched the WHAC regular season championship for the first time since the 2019-20 season, winning their 10th straight game on Saturday night, as they defeated the Madonna Crusaders by a final score of 80-75.
The Warriors were led by their senior duo of
Grant Smith and
Cory McKinney, as they each scored 23 points apiece, making five threes, dishing eight assists, and picking off the Crusaders four times.
Josh Kline had a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds to go along with four blocks.
Rog Stein did a little bit of everything, scoring seven points, grabbing five rebounds, dishing four assists, and earning two steals.
Max Perez had a solid outing off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-7 shooting, including two made triples.
Steve Helm scored five points and had two assists,
Jeremy Luciani had two points in seven minutes of action.
The contest went back and forth throughout, a key moment in the game came late as
Josh Kline fouled out with 1:43 to go,
Jeremy Luciani checked in with the Warriors ahead by three, and made a big time bucket off of the assist from Helm. From there, Tech would go on to ice the game away with free throws.
Tech out-scored the Crusaders 36-30 in the paint, which is a strategy that has won them games all season.
Indiana Tech improves to 22-6 on the season, sitting all alone at the top of the WHAC standings at 16-2. They'll travel to Sylvania, Ohio tonight as they'll take on the Lourdes Gray Wolves (20-5, 12-5 WHAC).
