WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team fell to No. 7-ranked Saint Ambrose University, 12-7, Thursday afternoon in their season opener at Grand Park.
Andrew Ryan and
Josh Bramley both had two goals while Ryan tallied an assist for a team-best three points.
Tom Piotrowski had five ground balls and seven wins in the face-off zone while
Jonah Jarmus and
Blaine Flanigan both caused two turnovers. Chad Nebal made seven saves in the loss.
The Fighting Bees drew the first score of the game just 89 seconds into the game, but
Samuel Bodley knotted the game up at 1-1 with 9:25 to play in the first. Ryan converted on a man-up opportunity with 13:20 to play in the second to put the Warriors ahead 2-1, only to see Saint Ambrose come back with two goals within 45 seconds just over four minutes later.
The two teams traded goals over the next few minutes, but the Fighting Bees scored four unanswered goals over the last six minutes of the first half to take an 8-4 lead at halftime, with SAU's Cole Danner scoring the second of four goals to put the Bees up 5-4 with 5:55 in the second quarter.
The Warriors could not cut the deficit to any less than three through the rest of the game while the Fighting Bees scored two more goals in the final 1:48 to complete the 12-7 affair.
Tech (0-1) returns to action February 26 when they travel to Kansas to take on #9-ranked Benedictine College in Atchison and battle Ottawa University one day later in Ottawa.
