Warriors Crush Crusaders in WHAC Tournament Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team began postseason play Tuesday evening with a resounding 66-26 victory over Madonna University in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Quarterfinals inside the Schaefer Center. Tech extended its winning streak to 12 games with the victory and has now won 10 consecutive conference tournament games.

Emma Tuominen had a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for eighth double-double of the season. Kyra Whitaker added 13 points and two assists while Erika Foy had 12 points, six rebounds and two assists. Taya Andrews had 10 points and four rebounds. Madonna's Megan Aho also had 16 points in the loss.

Andrews gave Tech the early lead with a triple that was matched by Aho on the Crusaders first possession, but the Warriors responded with a 9-0 run and never looked back. Madonna would not score again in the first quarter until the 2:37 mark, a 6:26 drought as they went just 2-15 from the field and 1-5 from three-point range.

While the Warriors didn't shoot particularly well in the first 10 minutes of the contest, they found their stroke in the second with an 8-14 performance (57.1%) and continued to stymie the visitors on the defensive end by holding them to seven points on 3-16 shooting in the second. Tech outscored the Crusaders, making their first appearance in the WHAC Tournament since 2017, 21-7 in the period to take a 36-12 lead into the locker room at the half.

The second half was a continuation of a dominant first half with the Warriors outscoring Madonna 30-14, including a 14-4 advantage in the third quarter, as the Orange and Black cruised to the win and won their 12th straight game against their foes from Livonia, Michigan.

Tech (28-2) will now host Concordia University in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals Friday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
