Warriors Drop Two to Aquinas

FORT WAYNE, Ind./GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The No. 14-ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team dropped two contests this weekend to No. 20-ranked Aquinas by scores of 6-3 and 4-3.

The opening contest was held at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse on Friday night, Joel Holmberg would score his 20th goal on the season, Alex Arnold would score a power-play goal and Malik Ali would score unassisted, by the Saints offense proved too much on the night, scoring twice in the opening period, once in the second period, and three in the closing period.

The Orange and Black were looking to avenge the prior night's loss, as they traveled up to Michigan on Saturday night to take on Aquinas in game two of the weekend series. Things started off quite well, as Malik Ali would score his second goal of the series just over four minutes into the contest off of assists from Fabian Granqvist and Holmberg. The Saints would respond that same period, with the game being tied heading into the first intermission. The second period saw the Saints regain the lead, but the senior Zach Bennett would respond with 6:30 to play in the same period, scoring off of the assist from Ali, making sure the game was still knotted up heading into the final period of play. Just 30 seconds in, it was Malik Ali who put the Warriors ahead 3-2 on an unassisted power-play goal. Again, the Saints would have an answer, scoring a short-handed goal not even thirty seconds later. No team would score again in regulation, and the game would head to overtime, where the Saints would connect on a shot just 38 seconds in, therefore winning the game, 4-3.

Indiana Tech (22-6-0, 15-5-0) now sits at a tie with UM-Dearborn for first place in the conference standings, and will look ahead to two massive contests this weekend, as they have a series with Lawrence Tech. The home contest will take place on Friday, February 11th at 7:30 PM for Senior Night at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
