LIMA, Ohio – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team had no problem winning on the road as they took down the University of Northwestern Ohio (3-16, WHAC 1-13) by a margin of 51 with a final score of 77-26 for their seventh straight win.
Taya Andrews had a game-high 21 points, going 8-11 from the floor and 5-7 from beyond the arc while adding two assists and two rebounds.
Bethany Worm was the other double-digit scorer for the Warriors with 11 points.
Eileen Salisbury and
Erika Foy each added 9 points.
The Warriors had a dominate performance on Saturday after shooting 29-54 from the floor and 13-26 from three, good for 53.7% and 50%, respectfully. Almost everyone on the Warrior squad got in on the action with 13 players hitting the score column. In addition to points, Tech controlled on the boards as well with 37-20. The Orange and Black's defense was also a force after only giving up a total of 26 points.
Kyra Whitaker got things started for the Orange and Black after knocking down a good three on the assist from Salisbury. The Racers would answer back with a good layup in the paint and a freebie from the free throw line to make things even. UNOH would take the 9-8 lead with 3:54 left in the first, but with another good three from Salisbury, Tech would have the advantage 11-9. The second quarter saw a lot of action from Andrews after knocking down five threes and helping the Warriors to a 44-20 advantage. The 14 points scored in the first quarter by the Racers would be their most points scored and only go on to score 12 points the rest of the game.
After the break, the Warriors did not slow down by going on a 13-0 run to start the third.
Emma Tuominen got things started in the period with a good layup on the feed from Andrews. Tech would miss their next few shots before Worm came off the bench and got a layup to go in the paint. Worm continued to make her impact known with a steal and a layup to grow the lead 52-20. The Racers were scoreless until they finally found the bottom of the net with only 2:23 left to go in the period. The fourth quarter seemed to be no different after the Warriors held the Racers to only two points in the final period on 1-12 shooting.
Tech (23-2, WHAC 15-2) returns to action tonight as they travel to Lourdes University for a 5:30 p.m. start. Tonight's contest is a rescheduled game from February 2 due to the weather.
