Warriors Earn First Sweep of Season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech softball team dominated the Viterbo Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Park. The Warriors won by score of 9-1 and 9-2.

Game 1 | Indiana Tech 9, Viterbo 1

The Warriors came red-hot, forcing the Hawks into a 3-up, 3 down inning and then scoring two runs of their own, with Meagan Barton singling home Alyssa Fox and Olyvia Notter singling home Barton. In the third inning, it was the freshman, Olyvia Notter who hit her first home run of her career, making it 3-0 in favor of Tech. In the fourth inning, it was more offense from the Orange and Black, with Alyssa Fox doubling home Maire Trouba. Barton singled home Alivia Doyle, Notter would hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Fox, and Barton would take home on a passed ball. After giving up a Hawk run in the top of the 5th, Alexis Galloway would hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Micaela Iacovetti, and Alivia Doyle would single home Shaelin Bruner, secruing the 8-run rule victory. Hannah Middlebrooks (2-0) would pitch four innings, striking out the Hawks four times and only giving up one run.

Game 2 | Indiana Tech 9, Viterbo 2

In the latter contest, it was more of the same. The offense started off hot right out of the gate, with Emma Kelley singling home Alyssa Fox and Kennedi Sullivan scoring off of a Hawk error. Later on in the third inning, Sullivan would score again when Iacovetti singled to right field and then Emma Chase would double home Iacovetti. In the fourth inning, Amanda Parker would score off of a Hawk error, and then Emma Kelley would triple home Fox, and later would score herself on a passed ball. In the fifth inning, Emma Chase and Carly Basham pulled off the double steal, with Chase stealing home. Later on in the sixth, Emma Kelley would hit her second home run of the young season. That would be the final run on the day, with the Warriors taking it 9-2. Senior Jaden Romero pitched a complete game, striking out three Hawks to enjoy her first win of the season.

The Warriors improve to 4-6 on the year and are off to Kissimmee, Florida to take part in The PFX Spring Games. They'll take on West Virginia Tech (9-3) and Cardinal Stritch (1-0) on Saturday, March 12, with the contests being at 1:45 PM and 4:00 PM.
