Sturtsman Ties WHAC Record with 17 Strikeouts

LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech baseball team kicked off postseason play Thursday morning with a 2-1 win over Concordia University in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament at Racer Field. Their scheduled game with top-seeded and No. 21-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio was pushed back to Friday due to rain and is now set for 12 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader. The in-necessary game will take place Sunday.

Hayes Sturtsman was the man of the game with a conference record 17 strikeouts as he went the distance on the hill, allowing just two hits and one walk over 118 pitches. Jayden Reed, Jacob Daftari and Mike Snyder all had two hits with Snyder and Manuel Ascanio driving in the Tech runs.

Reed got the scoring started with a one-out single in the bottom of the third and then promptly stole second. Following a foul out and a single by Daftari, Snyder sent a ball into center field to score Red and put Tech up 1-0.

Jordan Sherman tied things up in the sixth with a solo shot to left, but a one-out double by Tyler Stahl was followed by a double to left from Ascanio to put the Warriors up 2-1. Sturtsman continued to dominate the Cardinals after that, allowing just one baserunner via a walk while striking out four batters over the final three innings. The senior righty recorded a strikeout in every inning except for the ninth.

Tech improves to 32-19 and will need to beat the Racers twice over the weekend to advance to the WHAC Championship Series.
