Warriors Defeat Maple Leafs in First Home Game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's soccer team hosted the Maple Leafs from Goshen College Tuesday night at Warrior Athletic Field. The first half was an even contest between the two teams. Goshen outshot the Warriors four shots to two in the first half despite having even possession. Jordan Brown-Mundey and Kate Wallace were the Tech players to record shots for the Warriors. Sydney Lang recorded two saves in the first half, with the most important coming in the 33rd minute with a diving stop down to her left.

The Warriors held more possession in the second half, which led to them recording six second-half shots bringing their game total to eight. The Warriors seemed sure to score in the 61st minute when Rebecca Delgado cut past her defender to her right foot and ripped a shot that crashed off the crossbar. A follow-up shot by Alina Garcia found the target but was saved by the Maple Leaf keeper. The night's lone goal came on a ball played into the box from Alyssa Williams; Kate Wallace put pressure on the defender and forced a miss touch resulting in an own goal.  Sydney Lang went the distance in goal, recording four saves to earn the shutout.

Tech is back in action Saturday, September 24, hosting Lawrence Tech University at Warrior Athletic Field. The Warriors lead the series 6-4 but look to snap a three-game losing streak to the Blue Devils. The most recent result was a 4-0 loss in Southfield, Michigan, on October 30, 2021.
