FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warriors hosted the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University Saturday night in the Schaefer Center. A close match with a result of 3-2 concluded in favor of the Golden Eagles, bringing the Warrior's perfect start to the
Matt Fishman era to an end, a run that lasted seventeen games. The matchup between the top two teams in the conference had everything that was advertised. The sets concluded 26-28, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21, and 15-12, with a well-timed timeout taken by Cornerstone in the fifth set to bring them back from down 7-9 to take control and go on to win.
Tech finished the evening with a .152 attacking percentage, just .006 behind Cornerstone. The Warriors were led by
Emma Westra with 15 kills, while
Taylor Sorg and
Taylor Paul both had 11.
Noelle VanOort and
Olivia Gessner contributed one ace a piece.
Andrea Schriver had 27 assists and
Kelsey Schaldenbrand had 21.
Noelle VanOort had 24 digs while
Jacey Blust had 23.
The Warriors are back in Schaefer Saturday, hosting WHAC opponent Aquinas College (Mich.). The women's team lost the last meeting between schools in 1-3 fashion on October 15, 2021. Tech has a 23-10 record in the series all-time holding a 13-4 record when playing at home.
