Jamaya Warthen earned Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors the league office announced Monday.
Sanders took home Track Athlete of the Week for his dominant performance in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.02 seconds to win the Warrior Indoor Invitational at the
Doug Edgar Indoor Track Friday, Jan. 20th. The finish is the fourth-best time in school history for the event.
Somerville earned Field Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking triple jump at the Warrior Indoor Invitational. He jumped 15.11 meters to hit an "A" standard for NAIA Championships qualification and break a six-year-old school record.Â
Warthen won two events in the debut competition at the
Doug Edgar Indoor Track, scoring "A" standards in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. Her 7.64 60-meter time outpaced 43 other entrants and her 200-meter finish in 25.44 seconds was best among 41 competitors last Friday.Â
Sanders, Somerville, Warthen, and the rest of their Warrior teammates will compete at the Illini Challenge at the University of Illinois or at Grand Valley State's Bill Clinger Classic on Friday, Jan. 27th.
