Saints Spoil Women’s Soccer Senior Day in Final Seconds

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon, the Indiana Tech women's soccer team hosted their senior day festivities, honoring eleven seniors before welcoming Siena Heights University in a WHAC contest.

The festivities started with honoring the eleven Warrior seniors, including Michaela Bitle, Jordan Brown-Mundey, Madison Carver, Danielle Dunn, Tayler Grunkemeyer, Courtney Hatfield, Sydney Lang, Avery Maslowski, Julianne Munoz, Savannah Simmers, and Kate Wallace. The Warriors senior day comes three days after Tech picked up its first conference win of the season with a big 3-0 victory over Lourdes University. Against the Saints, Michaela Bitle, a senior from Brentwood, California was the difference maker in the first half. Bitle kept the Warriors in the game against the undefeated Saints with eleven saves in the first half, as Tech would head into the half tied at zero. The Orange & Black would take advantage of Siena Heights' missed opportunities, taking a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute of the game when Addie Nellis made a move around a defender at the top of the 18-yard box and placed it into the bottom left corner. Kate Wallace, a senior from Livermore, California, picked up the assist for the Warriors. Siena Heights would continue to attack the Warriors, finally finding an equalizer following a set piece in the 72nd minute. As the game moved into the closing stages, it looked as if the game would end in a draw. However, Siena Heights would get the winner off of a corner and a mad scramble in the box with ten seconds left in the game as the Warriors would face heartbreak in the final seconds, falling to the Saints 2-1. Bitle would finish the game with 14 saves for the Warriors.

The Warriors move to 1-5-1 in WHAC play and 3-9-1 overall. Tech will head to Howell, Michigan on Wednesday, October 18th to play Cleary University at 7:00pm.
