HOWELL, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team picked up a much-needed win against Cleary University on Wednesday night, defeating the Cougars 1-0.
The Warriors currently sit in ninth place in the WHAC standings, one spot out of the WHAC Tournament. Heading into the game, the Warriors were desperate for points after a heartbreaking finish denied Tech any last Saturday against Siena Heights. With just four games to go in the regular season prior to kickoff, the Orange & Black knew they were running out of games where they could falter. And against Cleary University, falter they did not. The Warriors would score in the 19
th minute of the game following a corner kick that bounced around the box and was smashed into the bottom right corner of the goal by graduate student,
Kate Wallace. Tech would control the first half, outshooting the Cougars nine to six and leading 1-0 at the break. In the second half, the game would remain 1-0 with both sides threatening to change the scoreline. However, both keepers would come up big, denying every attacking threat. Senior goalkeeper,
Michaela Bitle, would make three big saves in the second half to preserve the Warriors narrow 1-0 lead, and would finish with five in the game. Bitle and the rest of the Warriors would hang on to edge the Cougars 1-0 and pick up their second win in WHAC play, as they now sit just one point out of the playoffs.
With the win, Indiana Tech improves to 2-5-1 in WHAC play and 4-9-1 overall. Tech will battle seventh place University of Michigan Dearborn on Saturday, October 21
st at 12pm in Dearborn, Michigan in a must win game for the Warriors.
