FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team hosted Aquinas College on Friday evening in a critical matchup for the Warriors this season. Entering the game, the two schools sit first and second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings, with the Warriors atop the table. The Warriors were looking to solidify their place in the standings by taking down the Saints and did just that with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-10) sweep. Tech improves to 24-3 on the season and 14-1 in conference play.
Set one was an evenly matched contest with Aquinas taking an early lead, but the persistent attack of the Warriors allowed them to get back into the set and trailing 23-24, rattle off 3 straight points with kills from
Taylor Paul,
Taylor Sorg, and a huge, combined effort from Sorg and Paul on a block to close the set. The second set was a mirror of the first, as the Saints took a slight advantage to start. Neither team was budging, but the Warriors were able to edge in front to take a 4-point advantage that the Saints couldn't come back from. Set three couldn't have started better for the Warriors as the Saints had a service error followed by three straight service aces from
Noelle VanOort, who had a fourth later in the opening run as the Warriors would take an early 9-0 lead. The Orange and Black didn't slow down, as the quick tempo of their play allowed them to control the game offensively, winning the set 25-10 to claim the match.
Tech hosts Cornerstone University in their next contest on Saturday afternoon, with the game scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. The Warriors went to the fifth set against the Golden Eagles earlier this season but came out on top 3-2.
