Schriver Reaches 3,000 Assists as Warriors Soar Past Golden Eagles in Season Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team hosted Cornerstone University in the Schaefer Center on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC showdown. After claiming the first meeting of the season in 3-2 fashion, the Orange and Black were looking to complete the season sweep over the Golden Eagles and accomplished their goal with a 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) win. The Warriors move to 25-3 on the season and remain atop the conference standings at 15-1.

The Warriors imposed their will on the Golden Eagles in the first set as Tech never trailed, winning 25-16. Highlighting the first set was Senior setter Andrea Schriver, who entered the game 8 assists short of the 3,000-career mark. Emma Westra helped Schriver out by putting down a kill from Schriver as she surpassed the career milestone. The second set started like the first, as Tech jumped to a 4-0 lead. The Warriors maintained control of the set until the 20-15 mark. Trailing by 5, the Golden Eagles went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the day, but after some back-and-forth points, Tech closed the set with a 3-0 run with kills from Jacqueline Allaway and Emma Westra and a service ace from Noelle VanOrt to win 26-24. The third set didn't start how the Orange and Black had hoped, as Cornerstone scored five straight to open the set, but Tech worked quickly to get back into the game, locking the score at 7 apiece. The Warriors saw their first lead of the set as an ace from Gabriela Ortiz-Acevedo put them ahead 10-9, and from there, it was all Tech as they went on to win 25-17.

Noelle VanOort led the offense with 17 kills and 6 aces, while Andrea Schriver recorded 36 assists as she achieved a career milestone. Defensively, Jacqueline Allaway led the front line with 3 blocks, while Jacey Blust and Emma Westra held things down in the back row with 13 digs each.

The Warriors hit the road for one of their final two away games of the season as they travel to Rochester Hills on Friday evening to match up against Rochester University. The start of the game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Warriors won 3-1 when the two teams met in Schaefer earlier this season.
