FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's hockey team hosted last season's national runner-up, Minot State University, for a two-game series in which the Warriors took the first game 2-1, dropping the second 1-0. Tech moves to 9-1-0 on the season while remaining 6-0-0 in the CCWHA.
In game one, Minot found the net first, scoring the lone first-period goal, as Tech trailed 0-1 going into the first intermission.
Izzy Pettem-Shand found the net in the second period to bring the game level off assists from
Megan Yakiwchuk and
Dakota Bowler and enter the third period with a 1-1 score. Tech was looking for the go-ahead goal, and
Allison Greene found it from
Megan Yakiwchuk's assist.
Izzy Varner played all 60 minutes in the net, allowing 1 goal while recording 33 saves.
In the second game of the series, Minot State found the net less than a minute into the game and held that lead for the remainder of the game as Tech fell 1-0. Tech fired 26 shots in their effort to find an equalizer but were unsuccessful in their attempts as the Beavers goaltender denied all 26 attempts.
Izzy Varner was the choice in goal for Tech, allowing 1 goal with 26 saves.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday as they host game one of their two-game series with Miami University (OH). Friday's game is set to start at 4:30 p.m., with Saturday's road game scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
