FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's hockey team hosted the Miami University RedHawks on Friday, and then traveled to Oxford, Ohio to take them on in their own barn on Saturday in a two-game series in which the Warriors took the first game to a hard-fought overtime win 5-4 but dropped the second game with a result of 4-1. The Warriors move to 10-2-0 on the season.
In game one, nearing ten minutes of play in the first period,
Dakota Bowler finds the back of the net assisted by
Izzy Pettem-Shand and
Megan Yakiwchuk. Quickly after the start of the second period, the RedHawks score an unassisted goal to tie it up 1-1.
Allison Greene puts it in the back of the net not long after assisted by
Dakota Bowler making it 2-1 for the Warriors. Dakota bowler, racking up the points, scores quickly after being assisted by
Mikayla Kalverda and
Izzy Pettem-Shand, putting Tech up 3-1. As it's looking strong for the Warriors, the RedHawks fight back and bury one late in the second period making it 3-2, Tech still in the lead. 26 seconds into the beginning of the third period, the RedHawks score off the hop tying it up 3-3. Without a doubt,
Lauren Younker smashes one in the back of the net, assisted by
Michelle Borland and
Genessie Williams, making Tech in the lead 4-3 in the third. The RedHawks came firing back scoring not long after tying the game 4-4. With it being tied at the end of the third, the Warriors and RedHawks went into overtime to see who would take the victory. One minute and forty- two seconds into overtime, the Warriors found a way to victory courtesy of
Allison Greene and
Megan Yakiwchuk and ended with an overtime win defeating the Miami University RedHawks.
Izzy Varner played all 60 minutes in net, making 34 saves.
In game two of the series, the RedHawks scored the first goal of the game early in the second period leading 1-0. Many minutes later, the Warriors come back and bury their first goal scored by
Allison Greene, assisted by
Genessie Williams, tying it in the second 1-1. Early in the third period, the RedHawks achieve a goal to make it 2-1. Soon after the Redhawk's strike again scoring another goal against the Warriors making it 3-1. Late in the third with goal tender
Izzy Varner taken out in exchange for an extra man on the ice, the RedHawks find a way to the empty net ending the game with a 4-1 victory against the Warriors.
Izzy Varner finished her second game of the weekend with 17 saves.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday, November 17
th as they host #14 ranked Grand Valley State for another two-game series. Puck is scheduled to drop at 8pm on Friday at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, and 4:30pm on Saturday, November 18
th in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
