FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's hockey team fell to the University of Michigan-Dearborn in both of their two-game series this weekend in a tightly contested contest between the last two undefeated teams in the WHAC standings.
On Friday, the No. 9 ranked Warriors would host the visiting No. 17 ranked Wolverines, as both sides were 8-0 in WHAC play entering the contest. Dearborn would score first in game one under ten minutes into the game, but Tech would answer six minutes later with a goal from
Pavel Svoboda, assisted by
Connor Funke and
Alex Carrothers. Heading into the second period knotted up at one a piece, both teams would look to separate themselves in the game. The Wolverines would again score first in the period under four minutes in, but Tech would find an answer with just under five minutes remaining in the period when
TJ Dougan scored off of
Luke Anderson and
Brandon Plummer assists. The second period would continue to be action packed in the final five minutes with two more goals scored before the horn went off. Dearborn would score to take a 3-2 lead with 2:03 to go and Tech would tie it back up at three at the 1:30 mark thanks to a goal from

Tech would try to find a tying goal late but could not get another one past the UM-Dearborn netminder, only registering five shots in the final period. The Wolverines would add an empty net goal with five seconds left and win the game by a final of 5-3.

In game two on Saturday, Tech would play the Wolverines at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena in Dearborn, Michigan. This game, like the one before it, would be very tight from start to finish. Mason Bazaluk and
TJ Dougan.
Alex Carrothers,
Joey Mocnik,
Luke Anderson, and
Brandon Plummer would get assists on the goals. The Wolverines would claw back though scoring two goals to end the period and another midway through the second to go ahead 3-2.
Avery Smith would score unassisted for the Warriors with 5:55 to go in the second period to tie it up at three. The third period would finish scoreless, meaning the teams would need overtime to find a winner. Ultimately, Dearborn would prevail in the extra period when Bailey Byrd scored his third goal of the game for the Wolverines, as they would win the game 4-3 in overtime and take a two-game lead over the Warriors for first place in the WHAC.
