FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team hosted Siena Heights University on Friday evening for their final regular season game, in which they recognized the seniors in the program. The Warriors were looking to avenge their lone conference loss but came up short, falling 1-3 (22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 28-30) to the Saints. Tech moves to 28-4 on the season and finishes with an 18-2 record in the WHAC.
The Warriors entered the first set knowing it would be a tough battle like the first time they met the Saints this season, and they weren't wrong in their thinking. With little separating the two teams in the opening set, the Warriors came up short as the Saints took the first set 25-22. The second set didn't start how Tech had hoped, as the Saints took an 8-3 lead out of the gate that caused
Matt Fishman to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Warriors went on a 4-0 run to get them back in the game and eventually took their first lead, 18-17, forcing a timeout from the Saints. Out of the timeout, the Saints took a short lead, but three kills and a service ace from
Noelle VanOort gave the Orange and Black the advantage as they closed the door, claiming the set 25-23. The third set was like the first two, with neither team able to establish a lead. With the game tied at 22, an ace from
Madison Mayes forced the Saints to use a timeout. Two unanswered points out of the timeout by the Saints caused Tech to take one for themselves, trailing 24-23, and a block from Siena Heights gave them the third set 25-23. The Orange and Black won the race to 10 in the fourth set, leading 10-8, but couldn't establish much of a lead as the two teams traded points. Trailing 20-21,
Taylor Sorg had back-to-back kills to give the Warriors momentum and force a Saints timeout. The timeout served its purpose as the Saints rallied to win the set 30-28 and take the match 3-1.
The Warriors prepare to host the quarterfinal round of the WHAC tournament on Wednesday, November 8
th, where they will take on the 8 seed in the WHAC standings. The quarterfinal first serve is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
