RIO GRANDE, Ohio – On Wednesday evening, the Indiana Tech men's basketball team was in Ohio to take on the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) in a non-conference matchup. The Orange and Black kept the RedStorm's offense in check as they cruised to a 77-53 wire-to-wire victory in Newt Oliver Arena. Tech improves to 7-5 on the season and remains 5-1 in conference play.
Brady Titus had the hot hand out of the gate, scoring the Warriors' opening 7 points, as Tech took an early 7-3 lead.
Max Perez and
Steve Helm contributed to the action as Tech stretched their lead to 9 with just over 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The RedStorm kept things close for a few minutes, but a three from
Dallas Roberts put the Warriors up 11, and a lay-in from
Steele Brasfield gave Tech their largest lead of the opening half at 13 with 5:51 left to play. Rio Grande tried to cut into their lead, but the high offensive efficiency from the Warriors, shooting 45.2% from the floor, saw the Warriors take an 11-point lead into the locker rooms. The second half was all Warriors, leading by no less than 7 and as much as 25; there was little Rio could do to slow down the Warrior offense. Led by
Brady Titus with 22 points, 11 in each half, the Warrior offense shot 52.5% from the field in the game while going 7-14 from beyond the three-point line.
For the second straight game, everyone who saw the floor for the Orange and Black contributed with at least 2 points. Titus added 4 rebounds and 3 assists to his 22 points, while
Steve Helm posted 10 points and 2 rebounds.
Dallas Roberts was a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points and adding 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Javal Lewis led the team with a game-high 13 rebounds, adding 5 points.
The Warriors break for the Holidays but return to action on January 3
rd, traveling to Dearborn, Michigan, as they resume their conference schedule against the University of Michigan-Dearborn—tip-off for the matchup with the Wolverines is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
