GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan, over the weekend to take on the Aquinas College Saints in a conference showdown. Tech kept to their winning ways, with a 71-60 win over the Saints to extend their win streak to six games. The Orange and Black move to 7-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0.
The Warriors got things started in a back-and-forth first quarter with a three from
Taylor Covington, who led the Warriors through the first quarter with 8 points. The Warriors kept things close, but the Saints took a three-point lead into the second quarter. Opening the second quarter, the Saints went on a 10-4 run to extend their lead over Tech to 9 points, but the Warriors responded quickly with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the Saints lead to 2 with 6 minutes remaining in the second quarter. Tech outscored the Saints 19-16 in the second quarter to bring the game back level at 36, heading into the halftime break. The third quarter was a closely contested affair. Both teams led by as much as three but didn't create much separation until a 6-0 run from the Saints to close the quarter gave them a five-point lead going into the fourth. The story of the game for the Orange and Black was the fourth quarter, as they turned up the defensive heat, forcing 7 turnovers while only allowing the Saints to score 6 points as the Warriors outscored Aquinas 22-6 in the last quarter to win 71-60.
The Warriors had three athletes score 10+ points against the Saints, led by
Erika Foy, who had 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Taylor Covington scored 13 points, grabbed 6 boards, and dished out 6 assists.
Juliana Burris posted 11 points with 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
Tech is back in action on Saturday, December 9, as they host Cornerstone University. The matchup with the Golden Eagles is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
