FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team took on the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Adrian College, in a two-game series, in which the Warriors came up short as the Bulldogs took game one 5-2 and game two 2-1. Tech moves to 13-7-0 on the season and remains 10-2-0 in conference play.
On the road in Adrian, the Bulldogs struck first, scoring 13:21 into the first period.
TJ Dougan found the equalizer for the Orange and Black on the powerplay off assists from
Colton Nikiforuk and
Wil Campbell. The game was level for only two minutes as Gavin Watt from Adrian found the back of the net to take back the lead. In the second period, Adrian scored first to extend their lead to two goals. Sixteen minutes into the period,
Alex Arnold drew one back for Tech on an assist from
TJ Dougan. The Bulldogs scored two unanswered goals in the third period to close the game and down the Warriors 5-2.
Braedyn Funke played all 60 minutes in the goal for Tech, recording 40 saves while facing 45 shots.
Game two was a tough battle for the Warriors as the first quarter was a quick, clean, and back-and-forth affair, with zero goals or penalties. Tech broke through in the second period off the stick of
Avery Smith off assists from
Malik Ali and
Wil Campbell to give the Orange and Black a 1-0 lead heading into the third period. The Bulldogs leveled the score six minutes into the third period and found the game-winning goal a minute and a half later while on a power play, as Tech was unable to hold on to their lead, falling 2-1.
Ty Barnhill played in net for the Warriors, recording 31 saves on 33 shots faced.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday and Saturday, December 8
th and 9
th, as they travel to Chesterfield, Missouri, to face off against No. 10 ranked Maryville University.
