FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team took on Cornerstone University on Saturday afternoon in the Schaefer Center, where the ferocious defense of the Warriors helped lift them past the Golden Eagles, winning 87-61. Tech moves to 5-5 on the season and picks up another win in the conference, sitting at 4-1.
The Warriors came out of the gate hot as Javal Lewis got things started with a bucket in the paint. The Warriors' speed of play, stubborn defense, and hot shooting helped them establish and grow a lead through the first half. Scoring on seemingly every possession, the Warriors were a force to be reckoned with. Led by
Brady Titus, scoring all 13 of his points in the first half, Tech scored 50 points in the opening 20 minutes. At the same time, the high intensity on the defensive end held the Golden Eagles offense in check, allowing only 18 points, as the Orange and Black took a 32-point lead into the locker room. In the second half, Cornerstone needed to switch things up and pressured the Warriors with an extended zone to try and force the Warrior offense to throw the ball away. The change in tactics had a positive effect in the opening 3 minutes of the second half as Cornerstone held the Warriors scoreless and cut into the lead. Despite Cornerstone's defensive changes, the Warrior's offense maintained their lead, as the Golden Eagles could only cut the lead to 21 with 9:57 remaining. The Warriors kept the door shut down the stretch and took an 87-61 win in their last home game before the new year.
The Orange and Black spread the ball well and shared the wealth as five athletes surpassed double figures in points.
Max Perez and
Crew Gibson led the way with 14 points each. Perez added 2 rebounds and 1 assist, while Gibson grabbed 7 boards and added 2 assists.
Brady Titus had 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Javal Lewis and
Dallas Roberts added 10 points apiece, with Lewis adding 5 rebounds and 2 blocks and Roberts contributing 2 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, December 16
th, as they travel to Adrian, Michigan, to match up with WHAC foe Siena Heights University. The game with the Saints is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
