FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Indiana Tech women's tennis fell 6-1 to the No. 10 team ranked in the NAIA in their match this Friday at Wildwood Racket Club.
The Warriors took the court to play Doubles with
Abigail Simms and
Arianna Calcatelli, who lost 6-3 to Breann Barger and Melanie Dveksler.
Ana Gomez and
Valentina Rodriguez lost 6-3 to Emily Connoly and Sofia Loren Munoz, leading to Indiana Wesleyan clinching the doubles point.
Thaina Carvalho was the only Warrior to win in the singles matches. Carvalho beat Barger in the super tiebreak 10-7 to guarantee a point for the Warriors.
In the other single matches, Arunkumar lost to Munoz, Simms lost to Dveksler after winning the first set and suffering a comeback, Criss Echavarria lost in the super tiebreak to Ellie Snider, Gomez lost to Connoly, and Rebecca Van der Lee lost to Regan Mellinger.
Matt Coomer, Indiana Tech coach, evaluated his team's performance on the match positively: "Even with the loss today, I am happy with the overall performance from the team. We knew nothing would be easy against a top-10 team, and the girls from IWU showed their class and experience in the important moments. I am encouraged by how well our girls fought, and I believe there are a lot of positives to build off going forward."
