FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team claim the 2022/23 WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) regular season Champion after beating Lourdes University 81-66 in the Schaefer Center on Saturday.
The talent and experience of seniors
Erika Foy and
Kyra Whitaker led the Warriors to the win against the Gray Wolves, a plot that has been becoming common in the Warrior's season.
Things started challenging for the Warriors. They faced an inspired Shae Pedroza, who scored 26 points in the game (20 in the first half) to lead Lourdes. The Warriors managed to reach halftime, winning 41-38, and things would be even better for Indiana Tech in the second half.
After Pedroza scored 20 for Lourdes in the first half, Whitaker replied with 20 points in the second half for the Warriors, and Indiana Tech contained Pedroza, as she managed to score only 6 points in the second half. Taking advantage of Whitaker's great second half, Indiana Tech opened a 10-point lead after the 3
rd quarter and enlarged it to 15 in the 4
th quarter, finishing the game with an 81-66 win on the scoreboard.
Another highlight of Indiana Tech's Senior Day game was
Erika Foy. Foy annotated her 13
th double-double of the season, 11 of them in the last 16 games, and finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Orange and Black finished WHAC regular season with a record of 18 wins and 2 losses to claim the regular season championship for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons.
The next challenge for the Warriors is Wednesday, at Schaefer Center for the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals.
