Tech Softball Hits Off Season with Walk-Off Series Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Indiana Tech softball got off to a strong start to the 2023 season Sunday afternoon with two exciting victories over Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Game one of the doubleheader showed the Warriors in dominant fashion, as they enforced the "eight-run rule" by putting up 11 runs in just five innings for an 11-3 F/5 win. The Warriors started out hot leading 6-2 after the first inning thanks to Jordan Dippel's bases-loaded single that brought in two runs. Tech continued to pour it on, adding another run in the second inning, courtesy of Bella Brock's RBI single, and four more in the fifth, thanks to a two run double from Katie O'Drobinak to help secure the victory. Savannah Bravo pitched all five innings for Indiana Tech, allowing only one earned run on five hits, while striking out six members of the visiting Crimson Wave and earning the win.

In game two, the Warriors were tested after the Crimson Wave picked up six runs between the fifth and sixth innings for a 9-6 advantage. Karra Leeger-Capraro helped get one back for Tech with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to two. In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors were able to rally and load the bases. Carlye Walter stayed patient at the plate to draw a walk, driving in the eighth run for the Warriors. Haylee Pruitt then stepped up to the plate with the bases still loaded and down one run, when she then delivered a walk-off, two run single to win the game for the Warriors! Leeger-Capraro picked up the win for the orange and black.

Next up for the Warriors is a doubleheader with cross town rivals, the University of Saint. Francis, on Thursday, February 23th at 3 and 5PM EST.
