Sullivan Plays Hero as Tech Softball Wins Battle of Warriors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team played a double header against Rochester University on Thursday afternoon, sweeping the visiting Warriors.

In game one, the Warriors of Indiana Tech finished off the visiting Rochester Warriors in six innings by a score of 9-1. Kennedi Sullivan ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning by hitting a solo shot to left field to enforce the eight-run rule. Sullivan went two-for-three in the game with a walk and an RBI, while also scoring twice. Also picking up RBIs in the win were Lundyn Santos, Karra Leeger-Capraro, Bella Brock, Kiersten Delaney, Meghan Berlin, Haylee Pruitt, and Jordan Dippel. Leeger-Capraro picked up the win for the Warriors, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up two hits and one run, and throwing seven strikeouts.

In game two, Indiana Tech won 8-3 to finish off the sweep. After an RBI single from Pruitt in the bottom of the third, Sullivan hit a three-run blast to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead. Carlye Walter finished the game with three hits in four at bats, scoring twice and hitting two RBIs. Her two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth gave Tech some added insurance runs, building the lead to five headlining into the final inning, where Jayme Koning retired three straight Warrior batters to end the game. Brock and Koning also picked up RBIs in the win. Madisyn Miller started on the mound for the orange and black throwing 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and throwing two strikeouts. Koning pitched 3.1 innings in relief giving up just one hit and striking out four batters. Miller earned the win, her third of the season.

With the sweep, Indiana Tech moves to 26-4 overall and 6-0 in the WHAC. Up next, the Warriors will hit the road for a doubleheader against Madonna University (Mich.) on Sunday, April 2nd at 1 and 3 pm.
