Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech Men's and Women's Basketball host the NAIA National Championship First and Second Rounds, Presented by Ballogy, which began on Tuesday afternoon with the men's team beating Indiana University South Bend 82-57 to advance to the Second Round.
Hosting the first rounds of NAIA Nationals, Indiana Tech made the most of the court advantage and did not give a chance to IU South Bend.
With 10 minutes on the clock, the Warriors were already winning by an 11-point margin. This advantage would increase, and Indiana Tech reached halftime with a 39-24 lead.
Counting on strong participation from players coming from the bench, with highlights for
Max Perez and
Steve Helm, the Warriors' bench outscored IU South Bend's bench 43-16. Perez was Indiana Tech's top scorer, with 15 points and adding 3 assists. Helm also had 3 assists and added 11 points for the Warriors.
In the second half, Indiana Tech kept the pace and relied on the quality of the team's rotation, with 12 different players scoring, to increase the advantage on the scoreboard. The Warriors reached a 30-point lead and finished the game, winning 82-57.
Advancing to the Second Round of NAIA Nationals, Indiana Tech will face Evangel University (Mo.). Tomorrow (March 8), the teams will enter the Court to fight for a place at the final site of the NAIA Nationals.
