FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Thursday evening, the Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated Siena Heights University in the WHAC Tournament semifinal 12-10. The Warriors are ranked fifth in the country and are the two seed in the WHAC, while Siena Heights is seventh in the NAIA and third in the WHAC. The tournament matchup was much closer than the first time these two teams met on April 12, where the Warriors won 20-8.
Siena Heights opened the scoring in the semifinal with a goal in the first minute of the game. The rest of the first quarter would go back and forth as it would end 4-4. After getting the last two goals in the first quarter, the Warriors would score the first five goals of the second quarter to take a commanding 9-4 lead and ultimately hold an 11-6 lead at the half. The second half would be drastically different with the physicality and intensity starting to mount as the final whistle came nearer. The Saints outscored the Warriors 4-1 in the third quarter to cut the lead just two heading to the fourth. However, the defenses would take over, with neither team allowing a goal in the final quarter. Indiana Tech would hang on to their two-goal lead, as they would win 12-10 to advance to their fourth straight conference tournament championship, winning the last three.
Samuel Bodley led the Warriors offense with five points in the game, scoring four times and getting one assist.
Devin Macomber had two goals and two assists for the Warriors, finishing with four points, while
Emmett Coleman led the team with three assists. First Team WHAC All-conference selection,
Tom Piotrowski led the Warriors defense, helping to shutout the Saints in the fourth quarter. He finished the game wit team highs in ground balls and caused turnovers with seven and five respectively.
Kyle TwoBulls earned the win in goal, making 17 saves.
The WHAC's second placed Warriors will head to top seeded Concordia University for the WHAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, April 29
th at 1 pm. The Warriors are looking to avenge their lone conference loss of this season when they fell to the Cardinals 11-12 on March 25
th. Tech will also attempt to win their fourth straight WHAC Tournament title on Saturday in Ann Arbor.
