PENSACOLA, Fla. – On Thursday night the No. 2 ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team made history by advancing to their third straight National Championship game. The Warriors defeated the No. 3 ranked University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Thursday night in an enthralling 7-6 victory and now sit just one win away from their first ever national title.
Tech had lost to Reinhardt (Ga.) in each of the last two national championship games but will be facing a new opponent this time around in Keiser University (Fla.). The Seahawks of Keiser come into the championship game as the No. 1 ranked team in the country after going 16-1 this season, defeating No. 8 ranked Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in the quarterfinals and No. 5 ranked Weber International University (Fla.) in the semifinals. Indiana Tech will enter the championship game on an eleven-game win streak, with a record of 17-3. The Warriors defeated No. 7 ranked WHAC foe Siena Heights University (Mich.) in the quarterfinals and No. 3 ranked University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in the semifinals.
The NAIA National Tournament semifinal was a back-and-forth contest that saw the Patriots of the Cumberlands getting on the board first just over four minutes into the game. Less than two minutes later,
Devin Macomber would answer to the tie the game for the Warriors. The Patriots would take a 2-1 lead a couple minutes later before the Bodley brothers, Samuel and Khanan, would give Tech a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter. Cumberlands would regain a one goal lead with two quick goals in the second before
Samuel Bodley would score off a pass from
Josh Bramley to tie it four just before the half. Back and forth the two sides would go, both scoring twice in the third quarter, setting up an exciting fourth quarter with the score even at six a side. The final quarter of play was tightly contested with both teams defending intensely, making sure not to give up the crucial go-ahead goal. However, with 2:39 left to go in the semifinal game,
Devin Macomber became the hero for the Warriors, finding the back of the net after receiving a pass from
Emmett Coleman to win the game for the Tech and put them through to the championship game. Macomber and
Samuel Bodley led the Warriors with three points each, while Coleman,
Khanan Bodley, and Bramley all picked up critical points in the win.
Tristan McKneely helped secure many possessions in the game leading the Warriors with seven ground balls and going 11 for 14 in the faceoff circle.
Grant Seaman helped lock it down in defense for the Warriors with two caused turnovers, while
Kyle TwoBulls made six massive saves in goal to pick up the win.
The NAIA Men's Lacrosse Nationals Championship game between the Indiana Tech Warriors and the Keiser University Seahawks will be a rematch from March 12
th that saw the Seahawks escape with a narrow 9-8 win. The Warriors will be looking to avenge this defeat when the two are set to face off for the red banner on Saturday, May 13
th at 1 PM, with both sides looking for their first championship in program history.
