FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team kicked off its season Wednesday night with a 2-2 draw against Marian University.
The Warriors got things started on the scoreboard when
Lucca Motta dribbled around the goalkeeper and slotted it home off a pass from
Aaron Asamoah in the 11
th minute, as the two center midfielders picked up the first points of the season. Marian would tie the score at one just two minutes and 37 seconds later. After some attacking play from the Warriors,
Lucca Motta picked up the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and dribbled past a defender before putting the ball into the back of the net for the second time. Motta's solo goal in the 31
st minute gave Tech the 2-1 lead heading into halftime. After some back-and-forth play, the Knights would again draw level off a diving header inside the six-yard box with just 17 minutes remaining in the contest. Tech would have three shots over the last five minutes of play, but could not put one on frame, as they would settle for a 2-2 draw in their season opener. Motta would lead the way for the Warriors with his two goals on four shots, while Asamoah picked up an assist and one shot.
Alex Kyriakides made three saves in his Warrior debut.
Indiana Tech sits at 0-0-1 to start the season and will play (RV) Indiana Wesleyan University next on August 30
th at 7pm in Marion, Indiana.
