Red Card Proves Costly for Warriors as they Draw with Blue Devils in WHAC Opener

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team suffered a disappointing result against Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon after a costly red card saw their 2-0 second half lead disappear, ending in a 2-2 draw.

The game between the two Tech schools was a tale of two halves. The road Warriors of Indiana Tech dominated the first half of play, controlling the game in every facet. The Warriors outshot the Blue Devils six to one through the first 45 minutes of play, capitalizing twice. Tech's leading goal scorer, Lucca Motta, would add to his season tally at the 5:59 mark of the game to put the Warriors ahead early off of a pass from sophomore Aaron Asamoah. Following a Blue Devil foul and yellow card, Indiana Tech's Luke Jones stepped up and converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. The Warriors would maintain that leading heading into halftime. However, seven minutes into the second half, Indiana Tech's Nicola Brocca would make a costly mistake, picking up a straight red card, changing the game completely. The Blue Devils would take advantage of the extra man, scoring just three minutes later to make it 2-1 and get back in the game. The Warriors would be on their heels the rest of the match trying to defend their one goal lead, down a man. Lawrence Tech would find an equalizer in the 68th minute of the match, making it 2-2. Motta would also pick up a red card with just under five minutes to play as Tech would go down to nine men on the field. The Orange & Black would continue to hang on, making sure not to lose all three points as they would escape with a 2-2 draw in a game that saw total chaos from start to finish. In total, there would be seven yellow cards and two red cards between the two sides in the match. The Blue Devils would outshoot the Warriors eight to two in the second half, giving them a nine to eight overall advantage in the game. David Martinez would make two saves in goal for the Warriors, picking up the draw.

Indiana Tech opens up the conference slate at 0-0-1 and moves to 1-3-3 overall. The Warriors will be back at home for their next fixture when they host Concordia University (Mich.) on Wednesday, September 27th at 7pm.
