FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team hosted Concordia University for their first home Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) showdown on Wednesday evening at the Warrior Athletic Field, in which both teams would find the net twice, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
The game started how the Warriors had hoped, as they capitalized early.
Kodai Kobayashi took an early chance in the 5
th minute as he cut in on his left foot just inside the 18-yard box and saw a deflection find the back of the net to put Tech ahead 1-0. However, the Warrior advantage was short-lived as the Cardinals found the equalizer through Bryce Schaner in the 7
th minute. The Warrior offense would look for the go-ahead with 9 shots in the first 45 but to no avail as they went to the locker room tied 1-1 at the half.
There wasn't much between the two teams to start the second half. Both teams recorded shots in the opening ten minutes that forced reactions from the opposing team's keepers but were denied. At the 79:48 mark, the Cardinals would take advantage of a set piece and find the net to take a 2-1 lead. As the clock ran down, it seemed unlikely the Warriors would find the equalizer, but a costly mistake from Cardinals Chandler Wilson gave the Orange and Black one last chance with a set piece just outside the 18-yard box.
Luke Jones stepped up and buried the free kick around the wall to knot the game 2-2 with 40 seconds left in the match.
Tech moves to 0-0-2 in conference play and 1-3-4 overall as they prepare for Rochester University in their next contest at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
