FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team opened their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) season by hosting the Rochester University Warriors. Tech displayed a strong performance, taking down Rochester 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 18-25,25-13) to move to 7-2 on the season and open conference play with a win.
Set one was all Tech, as they never trailed, with
Noelle VanOort highlighting Tech's offense with 5 kills. Set two was a closer contest to start, with neither team budging. Trailing 12-10, Tech took advantage of some Rochester miscues and went on an 11-2 run led by
Emma Westra, VanOort, and
Taylor Sorg to establish a comfortable lead they wouldn't surrender. The Orange and Black lost their footing in set three, dropping the set 18-25, but bounced back in set four. Tech found the sweet spot in their rotation, with
Jacey Blust and Westra serving Tech to another 11-2 run, giving them control of the set and, ultimately, the match.
The Warrior Offense was led by
Noelle VanOort with 16 kills,
Emma Westra with 3 aces, and
Andrea Schriver with 44 assists.
Taylor Paul led the back line for the Warriors with 15 digs, while Westra was a force at the net with 4 blocks.
Tech continues their conference play on Wednesday in Lima, Ohio, as they travel to take on The University of Northwestern Ohio. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
