FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team hosted the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers on Wednesday evening, looking to extend their unbeaten record in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. After getting off to a quick start, the Warriors took care of business, defeating the Racers 91-58. The Orange and Black improve to 12-3 overall and 9-0 in conference.
Out of the gate,
Erika Foy got the offense rolling with the hot hand for the Orange and Black, scoring 8 of the Warriors' first 11 points. Tech's offense didn't slow down, extending the lead they built in the opening minutes of the first quarter to a 24-15 lead going into the second quarter. Through the opening five minutes of the second quarter, the Warriors went on a 16-4 run to stretch their lead even more and hit the half-century mark with under a minute left in the half, leading 51-27 at the break.
The Racers flipped the script in the opening five minutes of the third quarter, going on a 14-4 run with four made threes to cut the Warriors lead to 14. Tech regained their footing in the final five of the third quarter and extended their lead back to 17 to take a 64-47 lead into the last quarter. The last quarter was similar to the second, as the Orange and Black outscored the Racers 27-11 on their way to a 91-58 victory.
Erika Foy and
Genevieve Decker both surpassed the 20-point mark, with Foy adding 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Decker posted 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Amaris Lowery was a lift off the bench, scoring 12 points, all coming from beyond the three-point line, and added 2 rebounds.
Tech returns to action on Saturday, as they hit the road to take on Concordia University (Mich.) in the first of their three straight road games. The showdown with the Cardinals is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
