FORT WAYNE, Ind. – When inclement weather canceled their planned trip to Michigan for the Bob Eubanks Open on Saturday, the Indiana Tech track and field team jumped on the phone and invited some friends over for a limited field event meet entitled the "24 West Snowed in 5 Event Challenge". Their decision for an impromptu meet turned out to be a great decision as, led by the men's long jump contingent, the Warriors delivered some impressive marks, making the most of what could have been a lost day.
Freshman phenom
Davarri Barthell continued his all-out assault on the Tech record books, jumping to a freshman record in the long jump of 7.43m (24'4.5"). While he'd already secured his NAIA "A" standard, Saturday's performance helped him leap up to #4 on the all-time list.
Jaelan Stewart and
Darian Long also jumped past the "A" standard with PR's of 7.35m and 7.29m, respectively. Stewart is now #8 all-time and Long is #11 among all classes and #3 for freshmen in Tech history. Additionally, senior
Joshua Ballard collected a PR and NAIA "B" standard in 7.08m.
Additional Highlights:
- Mason Murphy posted a huge mark in the men's weight throw with a PR of 17.68m. He moved him up to #2 on the all-time Indiana Tech list.
- Jacquez Lawson won the men's triple jump in a PR of 13.97m.
- Christian Dixon earned a PR in the men's shot put at 13.94m.
- Deanara Mbouge won the women's weight throw at 15.77m. LaTarsha Moore finished 3rd with a PR of 14.96m that moved her up to #4 on the all-time list.

- Kaylee Fisher won the women's triple jump with a leap of 9.13m.
- McKale Hood won the men's high jump, clearing 1.99m (6'6.25").
