Warriors Sweep UMass with Back-to-Back Shutouts

FORT WAYNE Ind. - The Indiana Tech Warriors women's hockey team swept the University of Massachusetts off their feet, winning both games over the weekend. The Warriors put on a show Friday night at the SportOne/Parkview Icehouse and at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Saturday afternoon to help move their record on the season to 17-5-1.

In the first game, no team managed to put the puck in the net until early in the second period when Halle Murray scored three minutes into the period, assisted by Hailey Terpstra and Sophie Kuzminski. The Warriors managed to score four more goals in the third period, the first of which was by Ashley Episcopo who drilled one into the back of the net from the point, assisted by Michelle Borland and Allison Greene. Not long after, Dakota Bowler scoreed, assisted by Hailey Terpstra and freshman goalie Ashtyn Berthiaume. To close out the night, Halle Murray and Dakota Bowler both scored their second goals of the game, both assisted by Izzy Pettem-Shand, leaving Tech with a 5-0 win over the University of Massachusetts. Berthiaume played all 60 minutes in goal for Tech, saving 21 shots in total and earning a huge shutout.

In the second game of the weekend, the Indiana Tech Warriors made their way to the Allen County War Coliseum in Fort Wayne, getting a great opportunity to promote their program, and play on a big stage. The Warriors did not disappoint, as they battled hard to the end, and gave their fans a great performance. The first period remained scoreless again, but Hailey Terpstra found the back of the net twelve seconds in to start the second period, assisted by Dakota Bowler. Almost eleven minutes later, Genessie Williams made it 2-0 for the Warriors, assisted by Michelle Borland. Late in the second period Michelle Borland would score a beautiful breakaway goal, assisted by Allison Greene, giving Tech a 3-0 win over the University of Massachusetts for the weekend sweep. Freshman goalie Ashtyn Berthiaume got her second shutout and full 60 minutes of the weekend, saving 21 shots in total.

The Indiana Tech Warriors are back in action, playing their rivals, No. 3 ranked Adrian College for another series on February 2nd at 3pm in Adrian (MI) and February 3rd at 2:30pm at the Sport/One Icehouse back at home in Fort Wayne (IN).
