Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE Ind- The No. 8 ranked Indiana Tech women's ice hockey team split a weekend series with their rivals, the No. 3 ranked Adrian College Bulldogs. After losing Friday afternoon in Adrian (MI), the Warriors came back strong, winning on Saturday in Fort Wayne. This moves their overall record to 18-6-1.Â
In game one, the Warriors traveled to Adrian (MI) to play a Friday afternoon game on the road. Within the first 19 seconds of the first period, Allison Greene found the back of the net putting Tech up 1-0 early out of the gate. The Bulldogs found a way to tie it up late in the first period making it 1-1 going into the second. While there were no goals scored in the second period, Adrian College took the lead early on in the third, but not long after, Allison Greene, with her second goal of the game, scored, assisted by Michelle Borland, making it 2-2 nearing 7 minutes of play. Adrian managed to climb back on top scoring again to take the lead, as well as ending the game with an empty net goal. The final score was 4-2 for the Bulldogs after a tough battle on the road for the Warriors. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played 58 minutes and 38 seconds, saving a total of 32 shots.Â
In game two, the Warriors were looking for revenge and came out strong as Dakota Bowler scored within the first 3 minutes of play in the first period, assisted by Megan Yakiwchuk. Adrian College managed to tie it up later in the first period making it 1-1. No goals were scored in the second period similarly to Friday's game, but this time, the Warriors came out on top. Michelle Borland would score two unassisted goals in the third period, one being an empty net. Tech battled hard to the finish line, ending the game with a 3-1 win over the Adrian Bulldogs. Junior goaltender Izzy Varner played a total of 60 minutes, and saved 39 shots helping the Warriors come out on top with a huge comeback win at home.Â
The Warriors will be back in action when they play a two-game series against No. 9 ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn. They will travel to Dearborn (MI) on Friday, February 9th to play at 7pm and play back at home on Saturday, February 10th at 4pm at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
