Strong First Half Defense Puts Warriors Past Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team took the court in the Schaefer Center for the first time in two weeks, hosting the Cleary University Cougars on Wednesday evening. The Orange and Black returned to winning ways, rolling past the Cougars 75-57. The Warriors move to 12-7 on the season and 10-3 in conference play.

Out of the gate, the Warriors struggled to find the basket, going over three minutes without a field goal. Tech took advantage of a four-minute scoreless run for the Cougars to get back in the game and take their first lead with 13:49 left in the opening half. A long ball from Javel Lewis at the 6:17 mark gave the Orange and Black their first double-digit lead of the game, sparking a 9-6 run to close the half and take a 31-16 lead into the break. In the second half, the Orange and Black maintained control of the game, never letting the Cougars get closer than 16 points while taking their largest lead at 25 points. Down the stretch, the two teams matched each other shot for shot, but the lead established in the first half lifted the Warriors past the Cougars 75-57.

The Warriors shared the ball tonight with everyone who saw the floor, scoring in some capacity. Javal Lewis led the team in scoring with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist. Max Perez posted 13 points and 2 assists. Lucas Lyyski scored 12 points, a team-high 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, traveling to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to take on Cornerstone University in a WHAC showdown scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
