GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan, over the weekend to take on Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Cornerstone University in Mol Arena. Unbeaten in conference play, the Orange and Black kept their unblemished record and pushed their win streak to eight games as they took down the Golden Eagles 58-48. Tech improved to 17-3 overall and 14-0 in the conference.
The Orange and Black got off to a slow start in the opening ten minutes, shooting 20% from the floor and going 0-7 from beyond the three-point line; the Warriors found themselves trailing 8-10 going into the second quarter. Tech's shooting improved slightly in the second quarter, but the defense forced five turnovers in the second quarter, which limited the Golden Eagles' offensive possessions and kept the score close, 19-20, going into halftime. The Warriors came out of the locker room on a 13-2 run to take a ten-point lead with just under five minutes left in the third quarter. Cornerstone responded with a 10-4 run of their own in the last four minutes, cutting Tech's lead to 4 going into the final quarter. The Orange and Black maintained their lead the rest of the way, taking their largest lead of 15 points on the way to a 58-48 win.
Erika Foy led the Warriors with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 steal, scoring 8 of her 14 points at the charity stripe.
Bethany Worm had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Korryn Smith was also in double-figures with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The Warriors return home for a conference clash with Siena Heights University on Wednesday evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
