FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team kept their conference record clean on Wednesday, sliding by the visiting Siena Heights University Saints in 80-67 fashion on the back of a solid first half. The Warriors improve to 18-3 on the season and 15-0 on conference play.
The Warriors got off to a fast start, opening the first quarter on an 11-0 run through the first four and a half minutes and held the Saints to one field goal for the opening eight minutes. The Warriors were hot from beyond the arc in the first half, shooting 5-6 in the first quarter to stretch their advantage to 27-9 going into the second quarter. Tech's offense didn't slow down in the second quarter, hitting 3 more threes on 5 attempts to extend their lead. A floater from
Juliana Burris at the buzzer put the Warriors to the half-century mark, taking a 50-21 lead into halftime. The Saints flipped the script in the second half, throwing the Warriors off their rhythm with full-court pressure defensively. After a strong first half of shooting, the Warriors struggled to find the bucket, going 0-4 from three-point land and 5-13 from the floor, which allowed the Saints to get back into the game thanks to 18 third-quarter points from Kayla Hinton. The Saints outscored Tech 23-11 in the third quarter to cut the Warriors' lead to 17 going into the fourth quarter. The Saints cut the Warriors' lead to single digits for the first time since the 5:05 mark in the first quarter with a long ball at the 3:22 mark to make it 9. That was the closest the Warriors let them get, going on to win 80-67.
Bethany Worm recorded a double-double to lead the Warriors with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Erika Foy posted 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Korryn Smith had 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Taylor Covington had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
Juliana Burris had 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Warriors are back in action on their home floor Saturday, hosting Aquinas College, starting at 1:00 p.m.
