DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team resumed conference action on Wednesday evening as they traveled to Defiance, Ohio, to take on the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College. The Orange and Black took care of business, downing the hosts 3-1.
The hosts took the first lead in the opening set, but it didn't take long for the Warriors to seize control with an early 4-0 run, which featured kills from
Katie Gostovich and
Noelle VanOort. Shortly after that run, the Warriors were on another, this time 5-0, to grab a 17-8 lead before settling for a 25-18 victory in set one. The hosts got off to a hot start in the second set, grabbing an early 7-2 lead. Despite battling back and leveling the set three times, the Warriors could never regain control after the early deficit as Defiance took set two 25-23. Set three echoed the first as Tech raced to a 14-5 lead. The Warriors would continue to stretch their lead through the remainder of the set, taking an eleven-point, 25-14, win in the third. The fourth set was an even contest through the 10-10 mark, but a 6-0 run from the Warriors put them on top, leading the rest of the way to a 25-19 victory.
Noelle VanOort posted a game-high 18 kills while also leading the team in digs with 19 and holding a share of the team-high blocks with 2.
Hannah Teich served up six aces and co-shared the top spot in the block category with VanOort.
Sara Gomperts added 36 assists to her season tally.
Tech now sits at 16-8 overall and 8-1 in conference. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, hosting the University of Northwestern Ohio and Fisk University for a tri-match. Tech will play UNOH in the first match at noon and Fisk in the last at 4:00 p.m.
