LIMA, Ohio – The #17 ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team was on the road for a Wednesday afternoon rivalry match with WHAC foe the University of Northwestern Ohio where they fight to a 2-2 draw the Racers.
The Warriors would get off to a shaky start in this one, allowing UNOH a few great chances early but a sliding save in the box from defender
Xambos Statiotis following a breakaway and a crucial point blank save from goalkeeper
Alex Kyriakides would keep the Racers off the board. Moments after the Kyriakides save, the Warriors would break down the Racers in transition and send
Gui Moreira down the line where the forward would make a brilliant solo run and finish it off with a goal to put the Warriors ahead 1-0. Moreira may be the most in form player in the league right now, picking up a point in a sixth straight game. Moving toward the end of the first half, the Racers would score with just over six minutes to go to tie the score before the break.
In the second half, the Racers would find the back of the net in the aftermath following a set piece to take a 2-1 lead over the Warriors in the 66
th minute. Despite outshooting the Racers 17-6 in the game, the Warriors would trail late in the game. Down to the final minutes, Tech looked like it would suffer it's first conference defeat of the season. However, with 2:06 remaining
Saladin Lekhal would score a tying goal off an assist from
Jahiem Rose to save the Warriors a crucial point in the WHAC title race as the game would end 2-2.
Alex Kyriakides would play the full 90 minutes in goal for the Warriors, making one save.
The Warriors are now 9-1-4 overall on the season and 7-0-2 in WHAC play. Next up for Tech is a road WHAC matchup against Rochester Christian University on Saturday, October 26
th at 2pm.
