FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #6 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team got their first sweep of the season as they won both games this weekend against Concordia University as they move their overall record to 3-2-1.
In game one, the Warriors traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face off against the Cardinals in their first game of the series. The scoring opened in the first period with a power play goal at 14:16, as
Megan Yakiwchuk capitalized on the opportunity with assists from
Halle Murray and
Hailey Terpstra, giving Indiana Tech an early 1-0 lead in the first period. In the second period, Terpstra added to the lead at 7:56, finding the net with an assist from Yakiwchuk. Indiana Tech's pressure continued, as Yakiwchuk scored again at 12:22, this time with help from
Sylvie Legault, extending the lead to 3-0. Indiana Tech sealed the win late in the third period at 18:53, as
Izzy Pettem-Shand scored off assists from
Allison Greene and
Dakota Bowler ending the game with a 4-0 win on the road. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 60 minutes and saved 12 shots.
In game two, the Warriors played at the SportONE/Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana where the action began early in the first period, with
Halle Murray scoring on a power play at 7:08, assisted by
Hailey Terpstra and
Payton Gilmour, putting Indiana Tech on the board 1-0. In the second period, Murray scored again, this time short-handed at 9:53. Shortly after, at 10:38, Terpstra added to Indiana Tech's advantage with a goal assisted by
Izzy Pettem-Shand, pushing the final score to 3-0. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 60 minutes and saved 23 shots.
The Indiana Tech Women's hockey team now has a very quick turnaround as they are gearing up to travel to Sault St. Marie, Michigan to play Lake Superior State University in a two-game series on the road Monday, October 28th, and Tuesday, October 29th.
