FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #17 ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team hosted the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Wednesday night in the regular season finale. The Warriors would enter the game knowing that a win would clinch them a share of the regular season WHAC Championship. Madonna had won earlier in the day to clinch at least a share of the title, but due to the teams tying in their matchup this season, they would be co-champs with a Warriors win tonight.
All signs were pointing toward that being that case when
Alex Mihov put the Warriors ahead 1-0 curling in a beautiful shot to the far side netting coming on an assist from
Gui Moreira in the 34
th minute. Tech would take their lead into the half as they sat 45 minutes away from their fourth regular season title in the last six years. As the minutes ticked by in the second half, the tension began to build. The Warriors were unable to capitalize on a few chances in the half and left the Blue Devils hanging around. Tragedy would strike with just over eight minutes left in the game as Lawrence Tech found an equalizing goal to stun the Warriors. Tech would battle hard over the final minutes trying to find another later winner but were unable to register another shot on target. Ultimately the game would end in a 1-1 draw, resulting in the Warriors coming up just short in the title race finishing in second place for the third season in a row.
The Warriors wrap up their regular season with a 10-1-5 overall record and a 9-0-3 record in WHAC play. Tech will be the #2 seed in the WHAC Tournament and will host #7 seed Cleary University in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 5
th at Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
