Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Knights Spoil Warriors Home Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, hosting Marian University (Ind.) for their first home game of the season. After splitting the WHAC/CL challenge to open the season, the Orange and Black looked to add another game to the win column but unfortunately came up short as the Knights came out on top 78-87.

There was little that separated the two sides in the opening twenty minutes. The largest lead either side could muster was eight, held by the Warriors, 35-27, with 5:08 left in the frame. Down the stretch, the Knights would go on a 12-3 run to take a narrow lead with just under a minute to play, but a strong drive by Dallas Roberts with five seconds left put the Orange and Black up 40-39 headed into the locker room.

The battle persisted in the second half's opening, with the Knights narrowly inching past the Warriors to maintain a slight lead through the ten-minute mark. Turnovers and missed opportunities plagued the Warriors offense over the next five minutes, which the Knights took advantage of, going on a 12-0 run to take a fifteen-point lead before Crew Gibson stopped the drought with a lay-in at the 5:44 mark. With too little time left, the Warriors could cut the lead to nine but would get no closer as the visitors came out on top.

Crew Gibson led Tech with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Dallas Roberts posted 12 points off the bench and added 3 assists. Javel Lewis and Brady Titus added 10 points apiece, while Lewis added 11 rebounds for his double-double, and Titus grabbed 3 boards. Blake Davison led the team with 6 assists.

The Warriors now sit at 1-2 on the season and prepare for their cross-town rival, the Saint Francis Cougars, in their next contest. The Warriors will make the short trip to Hutzell Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
