MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team took a short trip south to take on the No. 3 ranked Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan University in Luckey Arena on Tuesday evening in a top fifteen matchup. The Wildcats offense has been seemingly unstoppable so far this season, and they proved why they're the No. 3 ranked team in the nation as they downed the Warriors 61-84.
The two sides were level-paced through the opening three minutes of the first quarter, but a lay-in from IWU's Jade Nutley at the 7:00 minute mark would spark an 11-0 run for the hosts over the next two minutes that would end in the Wildcats first double-digit lead of the game. The Warriors battled back the remaining five minutes, but the deficit would stay a seven-point stretch. In the second frame, the Wildcats would keep their lead, but only narrowly until
Gabby Richie leveled the score, 36-36, with 2:22 left in the half. Down the stretch, a 6-0 run from the hosts saw them hold a 42-36 advantage headed into the midway break.
Out of the break, the Wildcat's offense came alive and stretched their lead to 21 points midway through the frame. The final five minutes of the third was a defensive battle scoring a combined six points with the hosts holding a 64-45 lead headed into the final quarter. IWU maintained their lead in the final ten minutes for a final score of 84-61.
Ava Ziolkowski led the Warriors in scoring and was the lone Warrior in double figures with 11 points off the bench.
Jaidyn Gulley posted her second straight game with double-digit rebounds, grabbing ten boards.
In their next contest, the Warriors will travel to their cross-town rivals, the Saint Francis Cougars. Tip-off with the No. 22 ranked Cougars will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16.
