Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Split WHAC/Chicagoland Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball returned to the floor on Friday and Saturday, hosting the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference/Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Classic with Olivet Nazarene, Indiana University Northwest, and Concordia University as the other competitors. Friday, Tech took on Olivet Nazarene, taking care of business with a 91-66 victory. On Saturday, the Warriors offense struggled to find its rhythm as they would be dealt their first loss of the season by IU Northwest, 52-64.

On Friday, the Warriors put on a dominant performance. Opening the scoring with two free throws from Lauren Barton, the Warriors would lead from wire-to-wire in the win. Despite the Tigers' full-court pressure and chaotic end-to-end play style, the Orange and Black stayed disciplined and united. They were continuously breaking the Olivet Nazarene press to find a bucket on the other end, resulting in the Warriors dominating the game in the paint, outscoring the visitors 50-28.

Tech had three athletes put up double-doubles, led in points by Lauren Barton with 17, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. Taylor Covington had 15 points, 11 assists, and 3 rebounds. Korryn Smith posted 15 points with 1 rebound and 1 steal. Genevieve Decker scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and was one assist short of the triple-double with 9.

On Saturday, the offense came out slow and struggled throughout the contest. The Warriors quickly found themselves in a hole, opening the game on a five-and-a-half-minute scoring drought, which saw them fall behind 10-0. However, Tech continued to battle, and despite only shooting 25% from the floor in the first half, the Warrior's defensive efforts in the second quarter saw them take a narrow 27-26 lead into the locker room. The Warriors' offensive woes continued out of the break, finding the net on four of their seventeen attempts. On the other hand, IU Northwest's offense was efficient, shooting a cool 64% from the floor, outscoring the hosts 24-10 in the frame. Entering the final quarter trailing 52-37, the Warriors continued to fight, clawing their way back. With 2:17 left on the clock, Lauren Barton cut the RedHawks lead to five, but that was the closest the Warriors would get as the visitors responded with an 8-1 run down the stretch to settle the score, 64-52.

Genevieve Decker recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Lauren Barton was the other Warrior who scored in double figures with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Tech now sits at 2-1 on the season and prepares for Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Wednesday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m. in the Schaefer Center.
