Warriors Fend off Gray Wolves, Head to Seventh Straight WHAC Tournament Championship Game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday night, the #17 ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team hosted the Lourdes University Gray Wolves in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals. In the first matchup this season, the Warriors would win a close 2-1 back and forth contest at Warrior Athletic Field and would look to repeat that result tonight.

After a couple subpar games leading up to the semifinal, the Warriors would shake off the rust with a dominant first half against the Gray Wolves. After the tension settled in the opening few minutes, Tech would control the possession for almost the entirety of the first half. Alex Mihov would score an absolute rocket from outside of the box into the top left corner in the 23rd minute of the match to put the Warriors up 1-0. Fifteen minutes later, October's Warrior of the Month Gui Moreira, would double the lead putting Tech in firm control. Tramaine Lawson and Liam Arthur would pick up assists on the two goals as the Warriors carried that momentum through the rest of the half into the break. 45 minutes away from a seventh straight WHAC Tournament Championship game appearance, the #2 seeded Warriors would pick up right where they left off to start the second half. Tech would continue to keep control of the game, but Lourdes would start to get back into the game over the final 20 minutes. As the end of season realization creeped closer for the #3 seeded Gray Wolves, the desperation creeped higher. After two Warrior goals would be disallowed for offsides, Lourdes would finally get on the board with just under six minutes left to go, making it 1-2. However, the Warriors would stay strong in the closing minutes to fend off the late Gray Wolve attacks and send themselves through to the final. Alex Kyriakides would make two saves between the posts for Tech in the win.

Now sitting at 12-1-5 on the season, the Warriors will play for a sixth straight WHAC Tournament Championship next week. With top seeded Madonna falling to #4 seed Aquinas earlier in the day, the Warriors will be hosting the championship game on Wednesday, November 13th at 6pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
