Strong Second Quarter Lifts Warriors Past Saints

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team was back in action on Wednesday evening as they hosted Siena Heights University in the Schaefer Center. Taking care of business, the Orange and Black stretched their win streak to four games with a 70-51 victory over the Saints.

It took the two offenses a few minutes to get things rolling, as the Warriors held a narrow 6-4 lead through the opening five minutes of the first quarter. Tech's offense started to heat up down the stretch, closing the quarter on an 11-8 run, led by Taylor Covington and Ava Ziolkowski, who combined for thirteen points in the opening frame. Tech's offensive efficiency continued in the second quarter, shooting 66.7% from the field as a team, while Ziolkowski added nine more to her first-half tally to lead Tech. Defensively, the Warriors' trend of holding the opponent to single figures in the second quarter continued. They limited the Saints' offense to five points, leading to a 39-17 advantage headed into the midway break. Out of the break, the visitors made adjustments, matching the Warriors step-for-step in the final two frames, narrowly outscoring Tech by three points. Still, the strong second quarter from the Warriors was too much for the Saints to overcome, settling for a 70-51 Warriors victory.

The Orange and Black were led by Ava Ziolkowski, who was lethal from long range, hitting five of her seven attempts and tallied nineteen points. Taylor Covington and Genevieve Decker chipped in twelve points apiece, while Covington grabbed five boards and added three assists. Decker brought down four rebounds and dished out six assists.

The Warriors move to 7-3 on the season and remain unbeaten at 4-0 in the conference. Tech returns to action on Saturday, December 14, in the Schaefer Center as they host Lourdes University for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
